How to Encourage More Comments on Your Blog

When trying to get your blog ranked by search engines, it is essential to have engagement from the audience. By interacting with your audience, search engines will typically view you as being more relevant (and potentially more of an authority figure within your niche). To get people talking, here are 5 tips on how to encourage more comments on your blog:

1. Pose a question at the end of your blog post.

A simple way of getting people talking is to pose a thought-provoking question at the end of your blog post. For example, if you run a blog about the best dog toys for puppies, asking people what toys they buy for their puppies can generate a lot of engagement.

By asking questions, you will also learn more about how your audience thinks. By gauging their responses, you may even be able to find future topics to discuss to help create even more content.

2. Write about a controversial topic.

Although writing about a controversial topic can sometimes be uncomfortable, such a post can create a flurry of activity from your audience. For instance, if you run a goldfish blog, talking about trends that involve keeping fish in tiny bowls to be used as centerpieces at weddings can create massive engagement.

Whenever you talk about a controversial topic, it is very important to remember to keep it tasteful. After all, if you go about writing and presenting the piece the wrong way, you can potentially lose valuable followers. Yet, there are times when being bold will also heavily pay off as well.

3. Respond to existing comments.

To show people that you care about their presence, you should make every effort to respond to as many comments as possible. By responding to comments, people will see that you care about their opinions, so they will be more likely to comment again in the future. Additionally, you can optimize your comments as well to help attract search engines, although try to avoid being blatant about it.

4. Host contests that require people to leave comments to be eligible.

If you want people to really get excited about commenting, hosting contests can do the trick. For example, some website hold contests where people have to provide captions for pictures via commenting. To encourage even more engagement, you can offer a prize of sorts if their comment should be picked.

5. Create cute, funny, or weird content.

People absolutely love content that is cute, funny, or weird. If you want to liven your blog a bit to get more people commenting, you can try incorporating such content into your posts. For example, if you have a blog about fitness, writing about the weirdest ways to get fit can be a hit. Creating content that features cute animals “exercising” as well can encourage people to leave comments.

With these 5 tips on how to encourage more comments on your blog, you can create an active online community that will help boost your business.
